Our beloved father and friend has passed away today at age 86 - he will be greatly missed. He was in the hospital near Cuetzalan, Puebla with his daughters Alma Rita and Elvia - We love you Miguel, rest in peace.

Domenica who was chased into the Quinta by Pica and the others on the 5th of April has had her spay operation last Saturday. Of coarse she has managed to pull her stitches and open the wound. We are sprinkling antibiotic and violeta on it - a real chore to keep from getting infected in this climate. Otherwise, she is doing just fine - not a single complaint.

Domenica is a "Siamese Calico" - there was no way we could refuse her.
I would like to thank her two Godmothers from Port Townsend - Lisa and Lyn - thank you very much!

First rain of the 2009 season

Our first real rain rain, defined as enough to run off the roof, was Wedsnesday night. A little tropical disturbance has been off shore and to the south. We certainly will get some real rain from it tonight.

Hmmmmmmm..... I see my last post was two years plus two days ago. That was about the little Pygmy Owl we called "Agibu" - Kinda eagle and owl in spanish put together, as we were unsure at first as to what he actually was. The long story short is that he rejoined his family in the tree and made appearences from time to time. I still hear him or his family from time to time - now that I know what they sound like. Beacause of size and evasiveness, they are hard to spot.

If I start to post again am I required to write all that has happened since then?

Nope, forget it. Guess ill just start writing things that happened or are happening on a more regular basis.

This guy was found in our courtyard June 15, 2007, healthy and uninjured. We figure he fell from the Wamuchl tree on the side, crossed the roof and fell into the courtyard. He was found by Isabel while sweeping. Some sort of miracle that he wasn't found first by one of the four cats, or two dogs who are hunting this place.

Pica's Kittens

Full Story Pica had her kittens on June 5 2006. Just four very happy healthy little guys. They recently opened thier eyes and are now becoming quite fun.

These kittens are for sale, however will be given free to the first three people who can offer a good home. The fourt kitten? Well, dont tell Rita - but I want the one I call Domino, the first born.

He has appeared in Rayo Super Rayo's slideshows which are often , mistakingly, refered to as movies. Rudolphs ambition is to refine the Rudy Rudolph as a new fad dance. "Its all in how you move the front right paw", he candidly barked.

Chris & Alma Rita's 13th Anniversery

This Halloween marks the 13th anniversery of Chris and Alma Rita. Quinta California's hosts met in the now defunct Kings Head Bar in Puerto Vallarta on "All Hollows Eve". For Alma Rita, it was hate at first sight. Fact is she just had one good eye, as the other was very infected - and at first could only see Chris as a drunken gringo. For Chris, well, he was drunk and both eyes saw things kinda blurry.....

By the end of the evening, unbeknownst to the two of them, magic and destiny had done its thing. Alma Rita and her sister sped off in a Taxi leaving Chris standing on the bridge at 3:00 am crossing Gringo Gulch. The two didnt see each other again untill New Years Eve begining thier long distance relationship. She lived in Mexico City, and he lived in Port townsend Washington with the dream of opening a small hotel in San Blas....

Interestingly enough, this Holloween marks exactally 12 years since Alma Rita moved to the Quinta California as well. The two then started thier life together readying the quinta (not yet named) to open for guests.

The puppy has been named. Faster than a lightning bolt, more furious than a storm - from the white cloud (Nube Blanca) comes lightning as never witnessed on this earth - its ¡ Super Rayo!

What can I say? He is strong, stalky, if at times not "gordo". He is bright. Not even a month old, yet and he barks at people coming in. He eats (as he swims) from a plate - He even knows his name. Just yell "Suuuuuper Raaaaaayooooo!" and he comes running!

Well, it's not easy being a Momma, but I believe we are going to survive this. He is going on his third day now, and doing everything you would expect a puppy his age to do. Plus some. This guy has the strength, stamina and will of a guy thrice his age.
He eats, poos, cries and fights. A real survivor. Did I say he was gordo? Check out his photos!!!

Today will be his first trip to the Capitol. We are going to spend the night at the apartment with Alma Rita and Martes.

Nube has died giving birth.

We at the Quinta California are so sad to report that Nube has died this morning at about 10:00am. She went into labor last night and gave birth to one to one healthy male, nicnamed "Storm" for now. Two other puppies were born, however did not survive, and she was still pregnant when she died 11 hours later.

Nube Blanca "La Princessa Caramela" was rescued from the streets in December of 2005. She definately had two paws in the grave at that time. She was rehabilitated it the Quinta California and regained her health, only to accidently escape during a heat and consequently get impregnated.

She will be missed, despite her short stay at the Quinta. She must have been living on borrowed time and was given the opportunity to die with dignaty.

Well, we were trying to ignore it. Deny it. Refuse it. Tried to belive she was getting fat...
Now she is quite in you face obviously pregnant. The couple times she escaped during heat I was right behind her on the bike. Really never believed she had the time to have them eggs fertilized......

Would have been nice if "El Coyotito" (Rudolph) was the father, but he just was not at all interested.

I figure she is about one month into it, with about a monthto go. Lets start the bidding here. I said four, and Nube said eight. Enter your guess ubder comments.

Dedos shot and kidnapped!

Ransom was paid to retrive Don Dedos yesterday by Chris. "I just happened to look outside when I saw these two guys with slingshot bend over and pick up an Iguana. I watched them carry him by his tail down the street. I didnt even think it might be Dedos."

The boys had made it down to the corner before Chris decided to call after them and ask how much they wanted for the Iguana. They thought it was kinda odd a gringo wanted to eat him. After weighing the iguana by carefull guess work, lifting and lowering him - the ransom was agreed to be $10.00 pesos.

"It was then, when I was holding him I thought it could be Dedos. Hes fatter than most, for all the fruit he is feed at his lunch counter. I forget he actually goes outside the Quinta from time to time."

He was returned to the tree and immediately went into his hiding spot. Today seeing him at his normal perch with the wound on his neck and hind side confirms that it was Dedos after all.

"I am so pleased I happened to look out the window just then. We would have never known what happened to him"

Still plenty of vacancies this July . This was the coolest june in the 12 years I have been here. Still pretty hot and humid - in the 80's , but often a tad less than 70 in the early morning. Still no rain - but not usually expected after the first week of July.

Caught a greenish bird flying around the courtyard today out the corner of my eye - I panicked thinking it was Lemoncito (our greenish parakeet). Actually, it was another. A girlfriend for Lemoncito crying to get into the cage with him. She was an easy catch, and pretty hungry. Will her name be Sol, in honer of the solstice?
